COVID-19 Update: All conferences will be held in August, with both in-person and on-line presentations and posters.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to inform you, that effective from today, 13 May, Bulgaria is no longer in state of emergency. Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants, bars, and hotels are now open, subject to restrictions that support social distancing. Public park visits and sport activities are allowed.

Also today, the European Commission presented guidelines and recommendations to help Member States, including Bulgaria, gradually lift travel restrictions, restore freedom of movement, and allow tourism businesses to reopen, with all the necessary safety and precautionary means in place. We expect the temporary restriction of non-essential travel to the European Union, recommended by the European Commission, to expire on 15 June 2020.

In the light of the events above, we would like to assure you, that the conferences we have planned for August will be held, with both in person and online participants. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our attendees, partners, and staff and we continue to actively monitor the development and impact of the coronavirus worldwide.

Bulgaria declared the state of emergency on 13 March to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, imposing travel bans, prohibiting socializing in public spaces and closing schools, restaurants and bars. With a population of nearly 7 million, Bulgaria has confirmed 2,023 cases of COVID-19 and 94 deaths.

Updated information will be published on this page as soon as it is available.

13 May 2020

Dear Colleagues,

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for attendees of our upcoming events and we are actively monitoring the development and impact of the Coronavirus on the ability for all to travel and attend safely.

On 10 April, following a discussion with national and local authorities, the Organizing Committee approved a postponement of the following events:

Conference Old dates New dates
Agriculture & Food 17-21 June 26-29 August
Ecology & Safety 20-23 June 26-29 August
Materials, Methods & Technologies 22-26 June 29 August - 1 September

Given recent developments, we agreed that a postponement is the best course of action to ensure the health and safety of our attendees, partners, and staff.

All currently registered attendees will retain their registration for the new dates. If the change in dates causes a change in your ability to attend the meeting, you can switch to online participation or transfer your registration to a colleague.

We are working closely with the venue to put measures in place that currently include:

  1. Strengthened hygiene measures, increased sanitization, availability of disinfectants across all public areas, extra cleaning staff and increased routine checks.
  2. Attendees strongly encouraged to disinfect their hands in the registration area before entering the event.
  3. Shared equipment, such as microphones, presentation laptops, clickers to be sanitized between each use.
  4. Rearrangement of the conference room layout from theatre to classroom style, to ensure greater distance between attendees.

We apologize that we will not be able to hold the meetings as originally scheduled. Thank you for being part of our community, and for coming together to as we work through this difficult, but necessary step to hold great conferences in a safe manner.

We will continue to update this page and will send out updates, as appropriate.

10 April 2020

Dear Colleagues,

With COVID-19 (Coronavirus) now present in a number of countries, we have to be mindful that some of our very valued community may be facing difficulties travelling around the world. Therefore, we have taken the decision to allow the participants to change their presentation type (oral, poster, or online) up to 20 days before the actual conference date. Online participants can present oral presentations and posters; they will receive all printed materials (program, certificate, etc.) from the event and their papers will be published as usual. There is no limitation in the number of presentation type changes allowed.

We wish to assure you that your registration and participation is still completely valid, and we very much look forward to welcoming you in Bulgaria.

Our primary concern remains the well-being of our delegates, partners and staff. Bulgaria is following World Health Organization (WHO) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) guidance on threat mitigation.

We are continuously monitoring the ever-changing circumstances surrounding the coronavirus and are going above and beyond to keep our events safe and accessible for everyone. Updated information will be published on this page as soon as it is available. If you have any questions, please contact us.
